These are notes I made so I would know what I did to make this bag, as I really liked the way it turned out. I used 3 different fabrics. You could make the handles out of the lining fabric and the pockets using any combinations you choose.

Pieces to cut:

Outer bag
Cut 2- 12” by 16 Fabric A
Cut 2-4” by WOF for handles Fabric A
Cut 2- 4” by 16 for bottom Fabric B
Cut 4 pieces 7” by 7 for outer pockets Fabric B and C

Inner Bag
Cut 2- 12” by 16 Fabric B
Cut 2-15 by 7” for pockets Fabric B
Cit 2- 15 by 7” for pockets Fabric C
Cut 2- 4” by 16 for bottom Fabric B

If using Inn-control sews in foam interfacing, quilt the 2 inner bag pieces and the 2 outer bag bottom pieces. You can use it for the handles too or fusible fleece.

If using fusible fleece, use it on the lining only and the handles and the bottom pieces for the outer bag and the inner bottom pieces too. I would quilt the lining pieces and the outer and inner bottom pieces if using fusible fleece.

Wash and dry and iron fabrics. Cut out all pieces and do interfacing and or quilting first.

Make the 4 pockets leaving a hole in each for turning and trimming seams and corners. Turn and press and press opening under.

Presses handles in ½WSTgthwise and then turn each long side under ½” and press and then match folds and press again.
Topstitch down the side with the folds.

Outer Bag-
Put the pocket in the middle along the raw edge at the bottom and pin and then take the handle and starting at the bottom pin over the edges of the pocket being sure that the turning holes get closed in the sewing.
Stop 2 “ before reaching the top ad go across ad then back down the other side and across the bottom and back up and around on the inside of the handle. Be sure you catch the pocket. Lastly sew across the top of the handle a second time and make an X about 1” under that line with a line under the X/ Repeat for the other outer bag side.

Sew the outer bottom pieces across the bottom of both outer bag pieces.

Inner Bag
Place the pocket about 2 inches above the bottom raw edge of the inner bag piece and pin. Bring the sides in about1 ½” each and make a pleat in the bottom of the pocket on either end about 3” in from the bottom corner so the pockets will stand out a little to hold thicker objects, Leave the one in the middle flat and smaller for pens etc.if desired it could be just 2 pockets divided in the middle with each of them having a pleat and roomy.
Sew down the sides and across the bottom and from bottom to top to make the dividers in between pockets.

Do this on both pieces and then sew the bottom pieces on.

Attach your label and magnetic closure on the lining 1 ½” below the top in the center.

Joining Bags
Take an outer bag piece and an inner bag piece RST and pin and sew across the top. Repeat for the other 2 pieces.
Lay pieces out flat RST and outer bag pieces facing and inner bag pieces facing. Pin matching seams and sew sides and bottom of outer bag and sides and part of the bottom, leaving an opening in the center bottom_ for turning.

Box the corners on all 4 corners.

Reach through the hole and turn bag and close hole and put lining inside of outer bag and top stitch around the top.

Lottie Dot Jennifer Jangles Pattern

I received my new fabric by Windham and just had to make something using it. The floral is Butterfly Swirl and the stripe is Blossom. The pink on the inside is Shadow Flower. These fabrics are so rich and lovely to work with and sew.

Well, here is the finished product of the Lucille Bag-my new pattern from Abbey lane Quilts. I really like the way it self cinches when you pick it up. Of course, I can't seem to totally stick with a pattern. Using the fusible fleece made it too thick to gather all the way through outside and inside, so I did the next best thing by using strip of elastic on each side. I put it inside and sewed it from the inside using black thread.
You may notice, I quilted the outer bag in the triangles too. The bag does not call for pockets, but I think you could put them in if you want them. I do like pockets, but decided it might just be too much trouble. Maybe next time?
LOL
The pattern had templates to cut out the corners in a rounded shape and also to cut out the semi circle in the middle of the bag. Then you cut a small triangle beside the top.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the pattern and like the way it turned out.
I love using Batiks.

This is how the bag looks just sitting around and does not gape as I used a magnetic snap. I bought some on ebay and they are so strong it is unbelievable. And the little tip is minute.Good thing I reinforced under the lining pieces with heavy double sided fusible craf Tex by bosal and then ironed on a piece of Therm o Web Soft cotton woven interfacing. Pretty big pieces actually.

It also shows the purse organizer I ordered from Hong Kong on ebay. you can see the little white strips on each side of the bag where I put in a piece of elastic to inplace of gathering,.I did this instead because I used heavy Bosal fusible fleece on the outside and didn't think it would gather. the pattern from abbey Lanes Quilts did not call for interfacing. It called for an extra layer with the lining using canvas..I have not had a lot of luck with canvas so I just used the fusible and I am happy.
