Where in the world have I been???

The last day of September and the first day of October. I was substitute teaching in a kindergarten class when my vision got crooked. The next day, I went to the retina specialist, and she sent me to thee emergency room. After numerous tests, I went home in 4 days knowing only that the neurologist did NOT think I had had a stroke in the left eye. The left eye is or rather was my good eye, but it is now my bad eye. It is, however, getting better.

At first I could not read or work my crossword puzzle, cryptoquip or jumble, email, etc. Now, I can, with a little bit of a struggle.

Anyway, I am getting back to my blogging and emails and have been working on my new website. today I got my domain name and in a couple of days will be up and running. This is my fabric / sewing supplies store.

October 24 we went to Houston, Texas to the International Quilt Market and had a fabulous time. I saw all the new products for sale and especially liked the fabrics and purse patterns.

I absolutely went straight up over the Marcus Brothers Al fresco line and bought all 19 bolts. I can't wait to get it. I love the Surg and Sand by the same designer and bought several from it too. The fabrics are gorgeous. I bought several from the Eleanor Burns Benartex Victory Garden collection, and several from Maywood Studios and Moda. I have really been working to get it all listed online.

Back in August, I started making my bags for the Bazaar this coming weekend. I finished them last weekend and delivered them to the lady who sells them in her home along with items from several vendors. I have added the pictures I took of everything.

I got my quilt I made back from the Amish today

If you have been looking at my blog, you might recognize these fabrics used in this quilt...Most of them are Michael Miller and very beautiful to me. I pieced it and sent it to the Amish ladies to be hand quilted. They did a fabulous job on the quilting and the back is as pretty as the front with a tonal white with tiny flowers on it.
I made it for my brother Harry.

Striped Hobo I designed

I saw a bag on HSN that I fell in love with, so I printed it out and tried to draw it on newspaper. I made a pattern and this is what I came up with.

I eventually ordered the pruse and this one does NOT look like it, however I like this striped purse and love the way the stripes turned out.

2 new make up bags

This is a tutorial I got on the internet and it was taken from a Japanese craft book. I love it. The fabric is Pumpkins Gone Wild by Moda.
Take a peek at the inside too.
This is something I just made up using some remnant fabric from I bought in Lexington, Ky.
I put a zipper top and 1 slip in pocket and a loop. I like the way this one turned out.

Grab Bag Pumpkins gone Wild

Grab Bag ~ I found this pattern and think it is so cute. They are having a contest with this as the purse you make to enter . But it has to be 2 people entering together..............................
This is the way it looks, which at first I thought it was strange. You stick the long handle through the short handle and carry it by the long handle. Just grab it and go. I put 2 slip in pockets on the inside.

Hob using teal stripe

This is the other hobo I was mentioning in the previous post. I used the Michael Miller striped teal oon the outside and Hoodie's Garden on the inside.

Pumpkins Gone Wild Fabric by Moda

This is a hobo pattern which was given as a free tutorial on the internet.

I made 2 bags using this pattern and love the size. It has a magnetic closure and an inside big zippered compartment, and I put slip in pockets on the other side. I used all 3 of the fabrics in this line I have.

Pumpkins Gone Wild Fabric by Moda

Wristlet
I bought this epattern from youcanmakeityourself.

It turned out really cute and has a little pleat in the front and 2 rings for holding the handle, which can be as it is on both on the same ring for a loop. This view shows the credit card slots.

Here is a view of the zipper inside compartment suggested for coins.

A bigger view of the inside.

I absolutely love this fabric and have made several items with it. I will show them all.

Fall is my very favorite season, and I really get into it. I can just gaze outside and adore the weather and the scenery.

Sew-a-thon of purses, evening bags

This is velvet in the Peace on Earth fabric by Moda and absolutely gorgeous. The lining is the same thing only in cotton tone on tone.

These are made with the same velvet and the lighter one is brocade. They have shiny satin fabric on the insdie and a cord handle. I still have not decided how to do the closure. Any ideas?

New bags for Susan's Christmas Bazaar

I made 3 pieced and quilted smaller totes out of Peace on earth by Moda and they turned out nice.

Every year, Susan has a sale at her house with different people bringing things to sell. Last year, I was invited to participate with about 1 month's notice. I made and took my usual tote bags and sold about 15. She suggested this year I make a few smaller purses and bags and I decided to try to make them more Fallish and Winterish.

Hungarian Cake

While I was in Canada, I went wild over Carol and barry's new fry pans. I used t hem and found them to be awesome. So of coursem when I got home, I had to have some for us.
So, after searching awhile, I bought them on the internet. I love this brand and now I realize I need the bigger one. The first one of us to use one of these was hsuband George. I told h im no high heat and no metal utensils. You guessed it. He did both and the pan is marked now. I hope it will be ok. They weren't cheap either.

Barry's mother makes this cake and of course I had to have the recipe. When I got home I made it for our after church luncheon the next Sunday. It was a huge success and delicious. T he total amount of sugar was 1 and 1/2 cups, but I only used 1/2 cup and used 1 cup of splenda, and it was perfect.
The cake has 14 eggs in it!!!!!!!!!!!!yummylet me know if you want the recipe.

My Canada Trip

In early August I flew to Canada to visit my friends carol, Barry, Ean, and Jasper. While I was there we went to a close by botanical garden, which was enormous. It actually covered several miles. I took lots of pictures with my sony camera, but love this first one and put it on as my new screen saver. It is awesome on my sony monitor.
This was the coolest area literally and so peaceful. I wish I had it in our back yard.

This is me waiting for my delicious lunch at a restaurant after the trek through the botanical gardens. I was traumatized by all the walking. Remember, I am used to sewing.
Jasper.
Carol and Barry. As you can see, Carol is glad to be there, and Barry is not. lol
These people are awesome and so good to me.
I met them 10 years ago on the internet and we have visited back and forth many times. Barry is my duplicate bridge partner sometimes, but he has gotten too good to play with me. He earns lots of master points, but puts up with me sometimes on BBo.

Trip to Canada

i flew to Canada in early August to visit my friends Carol, Barry, Dan, and Jasper.

We went to the Botanical center, which was huge and stretched out over several miles.

I took lots of pictures with my Sony and here are a few.

The rest are in my Flickr site.

This was so cool really and peaceful. I would like to have it in my back yard.

Here I am sitting at a restaurant at lunch time-dying from all the walking. Remember, I sew all the time here. lol
